Award-winning cookbook author and Jeepney chef Nicole Ponseca is hosting a monthly Kamayan – a Filipino communal feast – at Wynwood’s 1-800-Lucky.

At the Kamayan, which means “eating with hands” in Tagalog, guests dine on fresh fruit, grilled vegetables, meats and seafood served on jasmine rice over a bed of banana leaves.

"Since moving to Miami, I've been longing for more tastes of home,” says Ponseca. “The Asian community here is quite small, and my aspiration is that events like this expand the offerings, curiosity, and demand for Filipino food in Miami."

The menu might include lumpia, crispy spring rolls with pork and shrimp; atchara, pickled green papaya, carrots and bell peppers; chicken BBQ skewers with banana ketchup BBQ sauce; ginataang kalabasa, made with kabocha squash, coconut milk, fermented shrimp paste and chilies; crispy fried shrimp with bitter melon relish; and longanisa, sweet Filipino pork sausage.

The first feast takes place Wed., Mar. 27 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $75 per person.
